In an innovative CSR initiative, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. has set up a sanitary napkin production unit at Birsinghagad village of Jujomora block in Sambalpur, Odisha. The unit will be run by a seven member women’s self-help group. The target cost of production of a pack of eight sanitary pads would be Rs. 8.00. BAIF Foundation which is implementing the project for MCL is handholding the women and enabling them to bring dignity to their lives.
This initiative aims at breaking the age-old taboos related to menstruation in the Birsinghagad village with a population of about 200 households. This all-woman micro-venture will also help the women earn a livelihood and contribute to the family’s economy.
