In a significant development for enhancing the skill sets of its contractor workers, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC). The historic agreement aims to recognize the prior learning of contractor workers in the industry, facilitating their professional growth and enhancing their overall competence.
The MoU signing ceremony took place on 6th July, 2023 at the ED(Works) conference hall in the presence of S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works) and Sushim Banerjee, CEO, IISSC. Present in the occasion were Mr. Debabrata Dutta, CGM Incharge (Services) and several other CGMs and Senior Officers of RSP.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward empowering contractor workers and acknowledging their invaluable contributions. This framework will enable these workers to receive formal recognition for the skills and knowledge they have acquired through their work experience, thereby bridging the gap between practical expertise and formal qualifications.
It may be noted that, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) initiative will play a vital role in improving the professional prospects and career progression opportunities for contractor workers associated with the Rourkela Steel Plant. By identifying and evaluating the skills and competencies they possess, the program will offer them a pathway to up-skill and re-skill, fostering their personal and professional development.
Expressing his happiness over the partnership Mr. Suryawanshi stated, “The MoU represents our commitment to the holistic development of the iron and steel industry. Recognizing the prior learning of contractor workers is a crucial step towards empowering them and providing them with opportunities for growth. We are confident that this collaboration with IISSSC will yield fruitful results for the entire sector.”
Sharing his thoughts, Sushim Banerjee said, ” This collaboration exemplifies our collective dedication to fostering a skilled workforce for the industry’s future.”
At the outset Rajashree Banerjee, CGM (HRD) welcomed the gathering, H N Pati, GM (HRD) proposed a formal vote of thanks. Annapurna Behera, Senior Manager (HRD) coordinated the event.
This MoU will serve as a catalyst for inclusive growth, enhance productivity, and lead to a more skilled workforce.
