The two-day zonal athletics meet of Association of Odisha ICSE Schools (AOICSE) hosted by St Joseph’s convent school, Rourkela commenced on 7th July, 2023 at Ispat stadium, Sector 6, Rourkela.
P K Satapathy, ED (P&A), RSP was the Chief guest in the inaugural function of the event. P K Swain, CGM, ( TA & CSR), R K Verma, GM (Hospital Administration, Sports and Airport), R N Padhi, Assistant Manager (Sports), Sister Punam, Chairperson of the Zonal Sports Meet, Sister Jayaseelia, Principal, St. Joseph’s Convent School, Sushrita Dash, Principal, IEMS, Sector 20, Sister Fidelis, Principal, Carmel school, Mrs Jayoti Gurudwara, Principal, Desouza’s school, and Dr Banamali Kar, former Principal, IEMS, Sector-20 were also present on the dais.
The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a prayer dance by the students of St Joseph’s School. The Chief Guest hoisted the sports flag and took the salute from 20 teams representing different ICSE schools of Rourkela and its periphery. The March past of all the teams accompanied by the school band of St Joseph’s convent school Rourkela,was highly appreciated by one and all.
In his inaugural speech, Mr Satapathy emphasized on the importance of participation in physical activities so that the students do not fall prey to the growing menace of overuse of the smart phones and social media. He also emphasised that participating in games and sports is more important than winning.
After lighting the sports torch, Mr Satapathy interacted with all the athletes, officials and the host school teachers. Ms Koyena Dastidar, teacher from the host school proposed a formal vote of thanks to conclude the inaugural ceremony.
