Korba, 20 December (Industrial Punch Desk) : Different figures are being provided for the ash utilization emitted from the plant. The matter is of National Thermal Power Limited, Korba plant. In the information presented in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, the ash utilization has been stated to be 81.66 percent. In the annual report of NTPC, this figure is 60.57 percent.

NTPC’s 2600 MW capacity plant is in operation in Korba. An average of 50 lakh tonnes of ash is emitted from the plant annually. The plant has to use 100 percent of the ash. The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly is going on.

In this, information has been provided regarding the emission of ash and its utility by NTPC, Korba in the financial year 2023-24. According to the information presented in the Assembly, 51 lakh 95 thousand 546 tonnes of ash was emitted by NTPC, Korba in 2023-24. The ash utility has been stated to be 42 lakh 42 thousand 772 tonnes i.e. 81.66 percent. Ash is said to be used in bricks manufacturing, land filling, ash dyke raising, mine filling, road construction. Questions are being raised on the figures presented in the Assembly because there is a difference in the figures of ash emission and ash utilization.

Actually, the figures shown in the annual report of NTPC Limited for the financial year 2023-24 say something else. Details of plant-wise ash emission and ash utilization are mentioned on page number 252 of the annual report. According to the annual report, 52 lakh 68 thousand tonnes of ash was emitted by NTPC, Korba in 2023-24. The utility was 31 lakh 91 thousand tonnes. That is, 60.57 percent ash was used.

There is a difference of 1 lakh 51 thousand 772 tonnes i.e. 21.09 percent in the ash utilization data presented in the assembly and in the annual report of NTPC.

According to the information, the data related to ash emitted from the power plant reaches the state’s Housing and Environment Ministry through the office of Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board located in the district. These figures are provided to Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board by the plant management. Different figures of ash utilization show that NTPC, Korba management has provided wrong information to the assembly. NTPC, Korba has the worst record of ash utilization.

An authorized statement was sought from NTPC, Korba management in this regard, but no response was given by the Public Relations Department and the Project Head.
