Balconagar, 11th January 2025: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, participated in the 78th Foundation Day celebrations of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at Kalinga University (KIT) and Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET). The two-day Standards Carnival provided a unique platform for over 1,200 students from schools across Raipur to gain industry exposure and deepen their understanding of the importance of quality and standards in everyday life.

Through interactive games, quizzes, competitions, and cultural activities, the carnival emphasised the importance of quality consciousness in everyday practices. It also fostered youth development by bridging the gap between education and industry through engaging stalls that showcased the significant role of standards in ensuring the reliability of quality goods and promoting students towards science and technology.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO & Director, BALCO, said, “The youth are the architects of India’s future. Reinforcing its dedication to quality and excellence, BALCO has secured BIS certification, a coveted stamp of quality on manufactured products for its extensive range of aluminium products. These include 12 mm wire rods, EC Ingots, Alloy Ingots, Primary Ingots, Rolled Sheets, Rolled Conductor Plates, and Rolled Plates. In addition to BIS certifications, BALCO’s products comply with various international standards in environmental management, energy efficiency, health and safety, and have also earned the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Certification for promoting sustainability across the aluminium value chain.

Beyond this, BALCO has been dedicated to empowering youth through initiatives spanning across the year including:

  • Vedanta Skill School: 3 residential vocational training centres that offers skill development across various trades and boasts a 100% placement record. It has trained over 12,000 youth so far, with employable skills, enabling them to secure sustainable livelihoods.
  • Summer and Winter Camps: BALCO annually organises summer and winter camps featuring an array of experiential learning activities promoting holistic development.
  • Plant Visits: To spark curiosity and interest in the industrial ecosystem, BALCO organises plant visits offering students valuable insights into industrial operations.
  • Project Connect: A unique initiative aimed at enhancing learning outcomes with a focus on improving students’ grades, by providing educational support in classes 6th to 12th to enhance Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Skills & need based classes & career counselling sessions for 9th to 12th grades in subjects like Science, Mathematics and Accountancy at 6 Government Schools.
