South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has surpassed the 336 million cubic meters overburden removal (OBR) mark in the ongoing financial year 2024-25. With this achievement, the company has met its annual target 20 days ahead of schedule and is on track to set a new record for the highest OBR in its history.

In the previous financial year 2023-24, SECL had achieved an OBR of 321 million cubic meters, which was the highest since the company’s inception.

However, in the current financial year, SECL has already surpassed this milestone ahead of time. Compared to the same period last year, the company has recorded an impressive increase of 32.37 million cubic meters in OBR.

SECL has significantly accelerated the pace of overburden removal, currently averaging 10-11 lakh cubic meters per day.

This remarkable progress is expected to push the company towards achieving a historic new record in OBR.

The company is actively promoting the use of environmentally friendly, blast-free Vertical Ripper Technology for overburden removal in its mega projects.

Additionally, SECL has expedited the land acquisition process to enhance coal production. In the current financial year 2024-25, the company has provided employment to 764 landowners, marking the highest figure in the last 10 years.
