New Delhi: The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Ashwani Bhatia as Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday. He has been appointed on the post for a period with effect from the date of assumption of the office and upto the date of his superannuation, i.e. May 31, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is currently as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of SBI, Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Fund (SBIMF). Bhatia will be appointed in place of PK Gupta who superannuated on March 31.

Bhatia completed his primary education from the Air Force School (TAFS), Subroto Park and Graduation with science stream (B.Sc.) from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra. He also did an MBA in Marketing Management from RA Podar Institute of Management, Jaipur.
Bhatia started his career with SBI in1985 as a probationary officer. During his 34 years of experience in the bank, he has worked in various states. He has wide-ranging experience in areas like SME, Mid Corporate and Forex among others. Some of his previous assignments include Chief General Manager (SME) General Manager Network 1 (Chandigarh Circle), Deputy General Manager (Forex) etc. He has also worked President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SBI Capital Markets Limited. Prior to his current assignment as DMD and MD & CEO of SBI Mutual Fund he was posted as Chief General Manager in Corporate Centre, Mumbai.
