A delegation of Akhil Bharatiya Beedi Mazdoor Mahasangh has met the Union Labour & Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav on 31 August and discussed various issues related to Beedi Industry.
The issues include- the extension of the date for Aadhar Linked KYC; Educational assistance & other benefits to Beedi workers, merging Beedi Dispensaries and hospitals with ESI, compulsory registration of all Beedi Companies under PF, ESI; providing Minimum wages to Beedi workers and separating Beedi from other Tobacco products.
The Union Minister responded positively and promised a suitable action immediately after discussing with top officials of the Ministry.
The delegation was led by Kalal Srinivash, All India President and Umesh Viswad, General secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Beedi Mazdoor Maha Sangh. The delegation includes B. Surendran All India Organising secretary BMS, Pawan Kumar Zonal Organising Secretary, BMS.
The minister also promised to write a letter to the union health ministry regarding the problems faced by the Beedi workers due to COTPA Act and Anti-tobacco regulations.
