G Krishnakumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (“BPCL”), called on Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister, Kerala, and had initial discussions on 8 August 2023 to discuss setting up a Poly Propylene Unit at BPCL Kochi Refinery at a cost of Rs 5,200 Crores (“Project”).
Vetsa Ramakrishna Gupta, Director (Finance) and Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) and other senior officials from Kochi Refinery were also present.
The Project envisaged as part of Government of India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat,’ will facilitate production of Homopolymer Grade Polypropylene (PP), which finds extensive use in manufacture of packaging films, sheet, boxes, containers, bags, home ware, home care, personal care and article of day-to-day usage which are expected to be developed in the vicinity of the complex.
BPCL’s proposal to set up a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Brahmapuram, Kochi, with municipal solid and the progress on the same was also discussed.
