The Sensex and the Nifty today closed with gains. Both equity indices rose around 0.8 per cent amid positive cues from Asian markets. The Sensex ended above the 52,500 mark while the Nifty finished above 15,800 level.

The BSE Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange climbed 397 points, or 0.76 per cent, to finish at 52,770. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange also gained 120 points, or 0.76 per cent, to settle at 15,812.

In the forex market, the Rupee appreciated nine paise to close at Rs 74.49 against the US Dollar.

Gold prices climbed around Rs 150 at Multi Commodity Exchange for August contracts amid gains in gold prices in the international markets. Gold was trading at Rs 47,920 per 10 grams. Silver prices also added around Rs 60 to trade at Rs 69,435 per kilogram for July Contracts when reports last came in.

Crude oil prices climbed, reversing most of the previous day’s losses. In intra-day trade, Brent crude prices were trading around USD 75.50 per barrel.
