Kolkata, 12 April : Coal India Limited organised a Stakeholders Meet on Promotion of Underground Coal Mines in India and roadmap for the development of UG mines in CIL at its headquarters in Kolkata.
Pramod Agrawal, Chairman CIL, while addressing the meet, emphasised the importance of focusing on underground mining as it is both socially and environmentally friendly and would prove economical in long run.

He further opined that CIL needs to enhance production, productivity from existing mines and plan more new UG mines especially where quality of coal is good. He also stressed the need for building an ecosystem that would support the growth of UG mining in the country.
Dr. B. Veera Reddy, Director Technical CIL, urged all stakeholders to collaborate on achieving the 100 million target by 2027-28 using underground technology.
He emphasised that for the success of UG mining an excellent work culture, quick decision making and indigenisation of equipment manufacturing are prime requirements.

Vinay Ranjan, Director (P&IR) CIL, Debasish Nanda, Director (Business Development) CIL, Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing) attended the meet, which was held in hybrid mode.
Along with the senior officials of CIL and its subsidiaries, experts in the field of underground mining from the industry and research institutions also attended the meeting.
