Coal India organised a workshop on “Experiences of Mine reclamation and repurposing and the learnings for ensuring a just and sustainable transition” at its corporate headquarters in Kolkata.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri P.M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India, emphasized the importance of using land for both social and economic purposes. He reiterated that Coal India has to adopt best practices for mine closure so that it has a minimal impact on people and the environment. He urged the subsidiary companies to focus on building skill development centres.
Dr. B. Veera Reddy, Director (Technical), Coal India, said that proper mine closure is necessary for a just and sustainable transition. He further added that reclaimed land should be utilised to create avenues for employment and revenue generation.
Shri Vinay Ranjan, Director (Personnel), Shri Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing), Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy, CVO, CIL, along with Dr. Shreshta Banerjee of iforest and senior executives of CIL Hq, were present in the workshop.
CMDs and senior management of subsidiary companies participated in the workshop in virtual mode.
On the occasion, two books, one on the “Sustainability Framework for Coal Mines” and another on “Optimizing Mine Water Utilization for a Sustainable Future,” were released.
