Rourkela (IP News). The Corporate Social Responsibility endeavours of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) have won accolades in national level. The Plant has recently bagged GreenTech CSR Award-2020 in two categories namely ‘Promotion of Education’ and ‘’Health care facilities’.
In a function organised at CEO’s Conference Hall on 19th November, Dipak Chattaraj, CEO, RSP handed over the Trophies and Certificates to Ajay Kumar Nayak, CGM (TA&CSR), M V Apparao, GM Incharge (CSR) and Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR). Present on the occasion were Raj Vir Singh, ED (P&A), Pankaj Kumar, ED (Projects), Arvind Mishra, CGM (RMHP) and Acting ED (Works), Dr. B K Hota, Director (M&HS), and other Senior Officers of the Plant. The programme was organised in adherence to the Covid 19 guidelines
It may be noted that the award presented to RSP under education category is a recognition of RSP’s significant contribution in the promotion of education amongst the underprivileged children staying in and around the Steel City through through Deepika Ispat Sikshya Sadan. Managed by the Deepika Mahila Sanghati, a leading philanthropic organisation of the city, the Deepika Ispat Sikshya Sadan caters to the educational and nutritional needs of 675 students of the surrounding area in Classes I to X out of which 55 % are girl children.
The other award conferred to RSP is under the category of health care. It is noteworthy that endeavours have been made by RSP-CSR to make health care facilities accessible and affordable to the peripheral populace through different health care initiatives.
Free Health Care centres have been established operating 6 days a week at Jalda, Chikatmati and Ispat Sanjivani, Sector – 6. Multi-disciplinary medical camps are organised at different locations in the four surrounding revenue blocks. Free medical aid centres are operating at 25 village locations on bi-weekly basis benefiting around 40 patients daily per camp. Last year around 30,000 persons benefited from such interventions.
People with severe health problems identified in the camps are further treated at Ispat General Hospital under various CSR schemes namely Project Sunayana for free eye surgery, Project Sushruti for medical intervention of people with hearing ailments, Project Charak for provision of free surgical interventions, Project Surabhi for treatment of gynaecological disorders, Project Sneha for leprosy patients, Project Akshay for treatment of TB patients and Project Swabalamban for children with cleft-lip and palate disorder, claw foot, hearing ailment and vision impairment.
