David Stone will now be in charge of Vedanta Aluminium’s coal mining activities as Chief Executive Officer, Coal Mines. He will be responsible for maximising resource efficiency at Vedanta Aluminium’s thermal power facilities in Jharsuguda, Lanjigarh, and Korba while also focusing on sustainable mining methods.
The company has 5 operating coal mines with a combined capacity of ~40 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). These include Jamkhani, Kuraloi, Radhikapur, Ghogharpalli, and Barra which is under exploration.
The president of Vedanta Aluminum, John Slaven, stated that he was delighted to hear about David’s increase in responsibility and in particular the opportunity which he now has to manage mining for the company.
The need for a strong coal supply chain is emphasised in the company’s extensive backward integration plan. The company’s current thermal power assets will receive a substantial reduction in cost from the new coal mines during the power generation process. Vedanta Aluminium is dedicated to limiting the amount of coal-fired capacity it adds to its power portfolio, maximising innovation and digitisation to drive the greatest levels of coal resource efficiencies.
David Stone said, I am honored to join Vedanta Aluminium and lead the coal operations at such a pivotal time when the company is expanding production capacity and is on an ambitious growth path. I look forward to working with the talented team to implement innovative strategies that will optimize our resources, reduce costs, and contribute to the company’s growth and sustainability objectives.
