India were 36 for one at stumps in their first innings in reply to hosts Australia’s 195 all out on the opening day of the second Test at Melbourne today. Shubman Gill with 28 runs and Cheteshwar Pujara with 8 were at the crease when stumps were drawn. Mayank Agarwal was the lone Indian wicket to fall for zero.
After losing the toss, the Indian team led by stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, bowled out the hosts for a paltry 195 runs in their first innings.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah claimed 4 wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin bagged 3 wickets.
For Australia, Marnus Labuschagne was the highest scorer with 48 runs and he became the first Test scalp of debutant pacer Mohammad Siraj. Mohammad Siraj picked two wickets.
India made four changes with Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj making their Test debuts. Also, Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant returned to the playing Eleven, in place of Wriddhiman Saha, Prithvi Shaw and Mohammed Shami.
India trail the series 0-1 after going down by eight wickets in the opening day-night test in Adelaide.
