Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy R K Singh and the President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen visited the International Solar Alliance Secretariat in Gurugram, Haryana today and addressed the Industry representatives on Solar Energy Development.
The Union Minister is also the President of the International Solar Alliance, ISA Assembly. RK Singh noted that India has taken the globally acknowledged initiative of the energy transition. He said, it is time now for all countries to come together and contribute to solving each other’s problems.
President of the European Commission in her address said that India and the European Union are closely aligned in the fight against climate change. She said, both India and the EU have embarked on their way to net-zero emissions.
She stressed the need to step up EU-India cooperation in developing solar energy. She said, both the countries can learn from each other how to finance, promote, and deploy solar energy and how to secure global supply chains and materials needed for solar panels.
The European Commission and ISA have had a strong collaboration ever since the establishment of the International Solar Alliance. At COP24 in 2018, the EU and the International Solar Alliance signed a joint declaration to promote solar energy.
