Raigarh, March 4 : The 1,600 MW Lara Super Thermal Power Station of Maharatna company NTPC Limited observed the 51st National Safety Day on Friday.
Manish Srivastav, Deputy Director (Industrial Health & Safety) Raigarh unfurled the safety flag and addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of industrial safety. He stressed the importance of identifying the safety hazards in their workplace. “Accident-free workplace is our prime objective to celebrate this programme and it is possible when we shall adopt zero tolerance to compromise on small safety hazards,” he added.
Alok Gupta, Executive Director, NTPC Lara administered the safety pledge to the gathering and appealed to all the employees and contract workers not to accept any work condition where safety is compromised. They should immediately inform the higher authority against the agency or employee. NTPC adopted a safety first policy and zero tolerance on compromising it. “And this is our duty to implement this in our workplace,” Gupta said.
In 1972, the National Safety Day was first observed on the foundation day of the National Safety Council. On 4 March 1965, the Council was set up by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to bring into practise a routine on health, safety and environment. Last year, the National Safety Council marked the 50th observance of National Safety Day.
Every year, a theme is given for this special day to highlight the importance of public work safety. The theme for the National Safety Day 2022 is ‘Nurture young minds – Develop safety culture’.
On emphasizing the theme of this year, Lara station of the power giant NTPC Limited will be organising various programmes, competitions for the employees, children, housewives and contract labourers to raise awareness on safety.
For implementation of safety practices inside the plant and township area, various groups have been formed under different departments and agency and contract labour working under them. Contract agencies and implementing departments were awarded by Chief Guest, Manish Srivastav, Deputy Director (Industrial Health & Safety) in the presence of Alok Gupta, Executive Director, GMs and senior officials.
