Rourkela Steel Plant : Once again showcasing their dexterity, the employees of Design Department have developed the manufacturing drawing of the “Top & Bottom Grinding Ring” for PCI of Blast Furnace-5.
It is worth mentioning here that the Top Ring, Bottom Ring & Balls of PCI are imported at a cost of Rs. 11 crores. To develop these in-house at a competitive price and boost the Make In India initiative, the detailed manufacturing designs are essential.
Design Department in coordination with Blast Furnace Department is working tirelessly and it is expected that the job will be over by 5th December 2023.
The spare has a diameter of around 4 meters with a critical spherical seat. Over the spherical seat grinding ball is being placed for grinding of coal. The complete spare consist of Top Ring, Bottom Ring & seven numbers of spherical balls of around 1.1 meter dia.
Notably, the area of rolling of ball over top & bottom ring was not identical resulting in non standard pattern of geometrical shape. It was difficult to develop drawing by physical measurement.
The method of Laser Scanning of spherical seat was used for development of spherical seat of Top & Bottom ring. Besides the 3D scanner has been used for the development of the drawing.
