The Sensex and the Nifty today fell marginally in the last hour of trading, paring early gains. Both stocks slipped amid mixed global cues.

The Sensex at Bombay Stocks Exchange fell 19 points, or 0.04 per cent, to finish at 52,861. The Nifty at National Stocks exchange also declined 16 points, or 0.1 per cent, to close at 15,818.

In the broader market at BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 0.19 per cent while the Small-Cap index fell 0.26 per cent.

In the Sensex pack, shares of 11 companies climbed while 19 fell. UltraTech Cement was the top gainer as it surged 3.2 per cent. HDFC Bank rose 2.6 per cent, Bajaj Finance gained 2.2 per cent and Bajaj Finserv added 1.4 per cent.

On the other hand, Tech Mahindra plunged 2.3 per cent while TCS declined 1.8 per cent. Maruti and Reliance, both fell 1.1 per cent.

In sectoral indices shares of 13 out of 19 sectors declined. BANKEX was the top gainer which added one per cent while the Finance sector surged 0.9 per cent. Power sector stocks ended half a per cent down.

On the other side, Auto sector stocks tumbled 1.9 per cent, IT declined 1.2 per cent and Tech fell one per cent.

The overall breadth of the BSE trade was negative as shares of 1591 companies gained while 1666 fell. Shares of 129 companies remained unchanged.
