The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed modest gains in afternoon trade. Both stocks added more than 0.3 percent amid mixed global cues.
The Sensex was trading above 56,100 while the Nifty was trading above 16,700 level.
The BSE Sensex gained 184 points, or 0.33 percent, to trade at 55,132. The NSE Nifty also surged 64 points, or 0.38 percent, to trade at 16,701.
In the forex market, the rupee also appreciated 28 paise to deal below 74 rupees per dollar mark. The domestic unit rose to 73 rupees and 95 pasie against the US currency in the afternoon deals.
