In cricket, Sri Lanka qualified for the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup with a nine-wicket victory against Zimbabwe in the Super Six stage of the qualifying competition at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on 2nd July 2023, Sunday.
Apart from solidifying their position atop the Super Six table, Sri Lanka, the 1996 World Cup champion, has secured that they will remain among the top two teams at the end of the stage, securing their qualifying for the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India from October 5 to November 19.
Four teams remain in contention to qualify for the ODI World Cup following the shock exit of two-time champions West Indies at the ongoing Qualifier.
Now Zimbabwe, Scotland and the Netherlands are in the race to secure a qualifying spot for the ODI world cup.
A loss to Scotland in their last game could knock Zimbabwe out of the competition. Scotland has boosted its chances of qualification with the win over the West Indies. It will qualify if it wins its remaining two games. Scotland, which has a net run rate of 0.188, finds itself in a must-win situation in its next game against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
The Netherlands needs big wins in its remaining games against Oman and Scotland to qualify.
