Bhilai (IP News). Continuing to focus on higher proportion of special grade steel grades that fetch higher net sales realizations (NSR) for the company, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant has been endeavouring to produce more special steel grades from its finishing mills.
Special grade wire rods IS 7887 Gr-3 (SWR-10) grade of Wire Rods is one such grade that is presently much in demand. Around 12,500 T of this grade has been produced in Wire Rod Mill in the months of August and Sept 2020. This grade of Wire Rods used for wire drawing and making electrodes, fences and wire ropes etc., were so far being produced by SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Wire Rod Mill from billets produced through Steel Melting Shop 1 – Blooming & Billet Mill route.
In the present scenario, with phasing out of SMS-1 & BBM, this grade of steel could not be produced for the last few months. The team of Plant’s Modex unit, Steel Melting Shop 3 along with Quality Dept took up this challenging task and produced this grade of steel for the first time. Casting of this grade of steel was even more challenging because of the 105 Sq. mm size of the cast billet.
SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant had received an order from Central Marketing Organisation (CMO) for rolling of 8000 Tonnes of SWR-10 wire rod coils in sizes 5.5, 6 & 7 mm. Around 4000 T of SWR10 wire rod coils were produced by WRM in the month of August 20.
During September 20 also there is a requirement of 12,000 Tonnes of SWR 10 grade wire rod coil. WRM has so far produced around 8500 T of SWR10 grade in September ’20. These wire rods are fetching a much higher net sales realization (NSR) than the TMT grade wire rods, thus getting handsome gains for SAIL-BSP.
