Nagpur, 04 June : WCL sponsors a 2 days International Conference on Sustainable Mining Options, The Way Ahead” organised by the IMMA, Nagpur Chapter. The Conference was held at the hotel Tuli Imperial, Nagpur on 3rd & 4th June, 2022.
The Conference was inaugurated through virtual channel by Cabinet Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, GoI. During the Inaugural Function Manoj Kumar, CMD WCL and MP Chaudhari, CMD Moil were present as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the conference, Nitin Gadkari encouraged the forum to push for developing innovative ideas and approaches for sustainable way of mining coal and minerals. He emphasised that sustainability is possible only if economic, social and ecological viability is achieved.
Manoj Kumar CMD WCL, in his address, put light on the various aspects of sustainable mining and ecological conservation like usage of Continuous Miner, Mobile Fog Canon, extensive plantation in and around mining area, reusing mine discharge water, Coal-Neer, Sand mining, Eco park etc undertaken by WCL. He also mentioned about the scope and coverage of importance of coal as energy source for India vis-a-vis renewable sources of energy in future.
President of IMMA Nagpur Chapter Diwakar Gokhale, in his address, briefed about the various activities undertaken by the Chapter to promote and propagate the principle of Sustainable Mining amongst the people & organisations involved in Mining activities.
The inaugural session was followed by 5 sessions of thought-provoking paper presentations by experts from India, Australia, Poland, Serbia, Canada and Italy. There were 20 paper presentations in the conference out of which half of the paper presentations were by International Scholars. Topics of high relevance like Sustainable Development, Dump Slope Stability, Green Mine Closure Planning, Use of Rehabilitation Methods using Artificial Soil, etc were covered in the conference.
In the valedictory session, addressing as Chief Guest Naresh Zurmure IFS, elaborated on the need of training and automating operations. Addressing the gathering as Guest of Honor J P Dwivedi, DT WCL, mentioned that the Industry is now ready for introduction and assimilation of new technologies for cleaner & safer environment.
The Conference was attended by Directors/Ex-directors from PSUs, Industry Experts and delegations from institutes like IBM, CMPDIL, VNIT, RMCOE etc.
